The Menorah: The word "Menorah" comes from the prefix "Mé" indicating the provenance of a thing, associated with the Hebrew root Norah, Nurah, from Nour, Nor (flame) in the feminine.
That is, MéNoRah meaning “of the Flame”, “which comes from the Flame”. This flame according to the Kabbalah, is none other than the Shekhinah.
Its original Y-shape was drawn by Maimonides in one of his midrashic treatises: three straight branches in the east, three in the west and one in the centre.
This Y-shape, according to the Kabbalah, was to recall the Seven Branches of the Nile Delta and its holy oil, the sacred waters of the Nile which were never to be lacking. According to Zechariah, these seven lamps are the eyes of God that watch over the whole Earth.
